GOP Caving to Dems on Tax Increases

patty murrayDemocrats are threatening to allow nearly $600 billion worth of tax hikes and spending cuts take effect in January unless the Republicans go along with allowing higher taxes for those making more than $250,000 a year. The threat has come to be known as “Taxmageddon,” and it seems the GOP is caving. After all, it’s an election year.

Just what will Taxmageddon do come January 1, 2013? It will begin,

raising rates on investment income, estates and gifts, and earnings at all levels. Overnight, the marriage penalty for joint filers will spring back to life, the value of the child credit will drop from $1,000 to $500, and the rate everyone pays on the first $8,700 of wages will jump from 10 percent to 15 percent.

The Social Security payroll tax will pop back up to 6.2 percent from 4.2 percent under the deal approved Friday by Congress. And new Medicare taxes enacted as part of President Obama’s health-care initiative will for the first time strike high-income households.

Some economists say it could push the fragile U.S. economy back into recession, particularly if automatic cuts to federal agencies, also set for January, are permitted to take effect.

This would basically be a huge blow to every American and the economy should the Democrats raise taxes on everyone, rather than get their way of only giving tax cuts to some and not to others. It is a shameful ploy to threaten the American people with taxes in this manner.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) said, in a speech she plans to give on Monday,

“If we can’t get a good deal, a balanced deal that calls on the wealthy to pay their fair share, then I will absolutely continue this debate into 2013.”

My goodness! These dimwitted people up there play with people’s lives like their own is at stake and they think they are doing a service to America. I’m not among the very rich. In fact, I am considered poverty level by the government, though I don’t consider myself poor by any sense. But to say something as asinine as calling “on the wealthy to pay their fair share” just shows why your party’s logo is an ass! The wealthy do pay their fair share. They pay far more than any of the rest of us.

The Washington Post reports,

If the tax cuts from the George W. Bush era expire and taxes go up for everyone, the debate will be reset, Murray is expected to say. “Every proposal will be a tax-cut proposal,” according to the excerpts, and Republicans would no longer be “boxed in” by their pledge not to raise taxes.

But they are boxed in because the taxes will increase on certain people. Not only that but taxes have been increasing over the past two years because of the Obamacare law. Furthermore Ms. Murray plans to say,

“If middle-class families start seeing more money coming out of their paychecks next year, are Republicans really going to stand up and fight for new tax cuts for the rich? Are they going to continue opposing the Democrats’ middle-class tax cut once the slate has been wiped clean? I think they know this would be an untenable political position.”

Again, they have been going up! More money has been taken out of the middle-class. Just remember the tax returns you filed this year.

Murray is expected to claim that “Democrats are willing to compromise. We just need a partner.” The problem is that they are not willing to compromise. They have put out something that is meant to be a political hot potatoe and have no intentions of compromising anything in their proposal.

While it may get the adrenaline going for the Democrats, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called the position an “outrageous ultimatum.”

“At a moment when the American people are reeling from the slowest recovery in modern times . . . and just five months away from the economic body blow that will result if tax rates spike, as scheduled, on January 1st, the president’s solution is to take more money away from the very business folks we are counting on to create the jobs that we need,” McConnell said in a speech Thursday. “Naturally, Republicans oppose this. The way we see it, nobody should see an income tax hike right now.”

When it comes to compromise Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) said, We were on the record saying we would agree to a conventionally scored tax increase if they would clear out the tax code, make it fairer, flatter and simpler and begin to take us off the road to bankruptcy on entitlements. And they weren’t willing to do it.”

One thing is for sure in all of this and that is that we can see from the statements of Patty Murray just which party actually cares about some bit of fairness across the board when it comes to taxation. The Democrats are more than willing to throw each and every American under the tax bus in order to get their way.

The easiest way to put this is the Democrats are willing to raise taxes on everyone, while the Republicans are trying to advance fair tax cuts for everyone. It appears now that the Democrats are trying to hold America hostage. The question is, will they succeed?

I lived in the state of Washington when Patty Murray was elected the first time. She was the “mom in tennis shoes”….and the ugliest woman I have ever seen. Time hasn’t done her any favors…she is still ugly and brainless as well! She defeated Sen.GORton….and I will NEVER understand why!!

Let them do it and vote them out of office.
Once they are removed it is easy to correct the mess they cause.
The investigate if they have broken any laws and prosecute them after we kicked them out and they have to pay their own legal expenses..
If necessary use Obama’s EPA strategy and prosecute until they are broke to set an example..
    Turn about is fair play.

This is nothing more or less than a blatant and brazen bluff to see if the Republicans will blink and give the Dems what they want on not renewing the Bush tax RATES (NOT cuts) for those making more than $250K per year.

The Republicans should double down and say, fine, if you want to be tagged with being the political Thelma and Louise and driving our already frail economy off a fiscal cliff, be our guest.

If Obama wins, the Dems can retroactively reinstate the Bush tax rates for whomever they want, and if Romney wins, he can amend or overturn the DOD sequestration, as well as other, damaging Democratic policies and programs, like ObamaCare.

What do you do when a bully blusters and bluffs? Why, that’s when you punch him right in the nose and make HIM blink, that’s what.

this is how they react- its bully tactics also used by communists.

These leaders don’t give a darn about the people, its all about control.
They will sell their soul to convince you otherwise.
Communism is here and very strong- all they need now is our guns & another 4 yrs of control to take over 100%.

Dictators say rich should pay more, but dictators take ALL your money and keep it- don’t distribute a dime- look at other countries- hows that dictator thing working out for them?

Its not a party issue, like they try to convince you to keep you distracted. This is ONE Nation lets keep it that way!

If the Republicans take the house, senate, and executive branch (Presidency) then their second order of business could be to cancel those tax increases. They could have the bill already written and ready to present to committee on the first day. If special interests don’t interfere it could be fast tracked to the house for a vote and on to the Senate. Again, if they “own” the senate they can fast track it so that in a matter of a couple of weeks it could go to the president. I believe it could be made retroactive to the first of the year.

Or the possibility of and EO on the first day could take care of it.

Wait a minute. Why are we allowing the democrats define the issue as Republicans “raising” taxes on everyone because the GOP won’t raise taxes on just the “rich”. It’s the Democrats raising taxes on everyone. They are the one’s who won’t compromise. They are the party in the majority and they are again holding the American people hostage just as they did with the military last year when they threatened to not pay the military salaries if the republicans didn’t agree to cuts in the military. You have a bunch of very mean evil leftists in the government who will hurt you and your children if they don’t get their way.

  • Old Kute

If this happened in the public realm, they would arrest someone for violation of the Rico act. The figure that Empower Obama suggested as “High Income” ($250,000) is ridicules. The average small business man will make more than that, if their business is run right but now he will have to cut back on spending because of the higher tax rates. this means fewer employees, fewer expenses – money in someone else’s pockets – and the backbone of the American economy will be, again, slammed. If they want to make the rich pay more, why not require them to pay a set percentage with nothing but actual business expenses – for the self employed – and up to 10% for charitable donations to be exempt and then they can pay the tax on everything else A lower tax, which leaves out the loopholes that Congress builds in for themselves, will bring in much more to the government coffers than raising taxes on the “rich,” as the Democrats call it, ever have. When so many people in this nation pay no tax (and I am not referring to any of the rich), taxing the rich to pay their share is not fair either. Put the top higher, if they must, then make it mandatory that they revisit this issue after the election. Let it be known that the reason the temporary tax increase was approved is because the Democrats would have burdened the entire nation with higher and definitely unfair taxes.

How is the word going to get out when the media is in the democrats pockets & visa versa

    • larrylunts

Sorry, Old Kute, but you’re confusing gross with net income. The expiration of Bush tax cuts would only affect the portion of small business income taken by small business owners for personal use, or “owner’s draw.” This would have no effect on owner spending for employees or capital investments; in fact, it would ENCOURAGE such job creation and investments. Here’s why:

Let’s say a small business owner has $2 million (gross) sales in a given year. After expenses (materials, labor, overhead, etc.) there is $350,000 (net) profit. He could take that money, stick it straight in his bank account, or use it to buy expensive toys.

Or, he could spend $100,000 of it to expand and grow his business, by buying new equipment or hiring new employees. That would leave his personal income at $250,000, and he would not be affected at all by the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. And $250,000 a year in disposable income is still a damned fine living, by the standards of 99% of the US population.

But the vast majority of small business owners, the backbone of our nation’s economy, take far less than $250,000 per year for personal income; because, having an entrepreneurial spirit, they choose to grow and expand their businesses; rather than buy LearJets, Porsches, and gold-plated vacuum cleaners. Not that they can’t choose to buy the expensive toys if they want to, it’s just that they will get a little bigger tax bite if they choose to place personal luxury ahead of the prosperity of their country.

Thus, tax policy which ends the Bush tax cuts for the millionaires and billionaires, actually ENCOURAGES job creation and investment.

    • rockribbedrushy

Any real life experience with this or real life business owners?
Or maybe you have some stats to back up your assertions?
Sucha s how many small business owner are sub chapter S? or how many file as personal taxes?

    • larrylunts

      Yeah, my own.

None of these taxes would need to be raised if ALL those in “power” would stop taking a salary. What they think is SO GOOD for the American people isn’t quite good enough for them. A~holes!!

    • John Galt

      Sgtusmc is RIGHT!

Wake up, people. Ron Paul is the only decent candidate out there. Sure, the Republicans will tell you that their current empty-suit turd-on-a-plate candidate Mitt Romney is the only choice you have, but that’s just the “lesser of two evils” shell game that both major parties have been foisting on us suckers for decades. It’s time to send a message to the Republicans: we want a candidate we can believe in. If we don’t send that message, the GOP will just keep shoving the same old-boy-network hacks, like Mitt Romney, up our butts for the rest of eternity, and nothing will ever change!I know the Republican Party “official” response would be that “a vote for Ron Paul would give the election to Obama,” blah, blah, blah. But that’s just because the old-guard hacks in the Republican Party want you to think that you have no choice except to swallow the pablum they’re force-feeding you.But really, anything is possible, if only the people vote for it.And even if their worst predictions came true–and Obama were reelected for another term–wouldn’t he surely fail? And wouldn’t that failure usher in a new era of Republican rule? An era in which the Republicans would have been chastised into giving us candidates of character, instead of the political hacks they’re offering up this time around? Please, people think in terms of the long term, rather than the short!Vote for, or write in Ron Paul, the only true American. Tell America that Washington politics, as both parties are used to doing it, IS OVER!!!!

  • mari

and we are surprised at what the Democrats are doing, why? Business as usual for them. You don’t see THEM sharing their wealth do you?? It is just you and I who have to do that. Yes, but you have to remember, they own the media who are their “Spin Masters.” They could paint the white house blue and the media would tell the people — who are gulable enought to believe them — that it was the Republicans that did it. They have put the GOP between a rock and a hard spot.
