Democrat Governor of Connecticut Dan Malloy, questioned the patriotism of the GOP in a statement on Friday. He claimed that their sole mission was to defeat Barack Obama instead of passing meaningful legislation.
“To be a Republican today, you have to deny reality and embrace a message that has no other purpose than to elect their candidate as President of the United States,” Malloy said at a press conference during the annual meeting of the National Governors Association.
Malloy pointed to what he said was the GOP’s inability to provide an alternative to Obamacare. This is an obvious lie. The Republicans have offered several plans. Some are actually decent in that the government basically just gets out of the way and allows for insurance to be sold across states lines, while other are bits and piece and even the whole, except the mandate, of Obamacare itself.
“They know what they’re against, but they can’t tell you what they’re for,” he continued. “In other times taking those positions would be described as unpatriotic, but our politics have become so distorted that to be against a jobs bill is a good thing, and to be against health reform is a good thing.”
Unpatriotic? Hmmm. I think Governor Malloy is confusing the GOP with his boss, Barack Obama. After all Barack Obama declared with his own mouth that he was unpatriotic.
Being against bad bills does not make one unpatriotic. Forcing people “gestapo style” to buy something they do not want is.
