Allen West: Everyone Should Buy A Glock 9mm Or We'll Tax You

After the Supreme Court's ruling that Obamacare is actually ObamaTax, many have made the point that if the federal government can tax you, which liberals want to call a penalty, for not purchasing health insurance, then they can pretty much determine whatever they want you to buy and if you don't buy it, then they can tax you. Rep. Allen West took a shot at the Left in a speech during an event in Florida. He said the tax code was a weapon that was being used against the American people. To thunderous applause, even a standing ovation, West stated that he would like to suggest that every American, for personal security, should have to buy a gun. His weapon of choice? A Glock 9mm.

“What will be next? If you don’t buy a certain kind of green car, they will tax you. If you don’t buy a certain kind of food, they will tax you. Well I got a great idea. I believe that for personal security every American should have to go out and buy a Glock 9 mm, and if you don’t do it, we’ll tax you. Now I wonder how the liberals will feel about that.”

While I do like the sentiment of every American owning a weapon, though I would bump it up a notch, say a Glock .40 or .45, I understand that West was simply making a point and a good one at that. Though government should not be allowed to force people to purchase things they don't want. If they don't want something, including a gun, then leave them alone.

I applaud the point made by West. However, I believe he was a couple hundred years too late as George Washington signed the Militia Act of 1792 which required such a purchase (though Glock was not around and there were only muskets at the time).

I agree! Representative Allen West needs to be President, or at least Vice-President, if we are allowed to have a general election on Novembet 6m, 2012.. That would be a game changer!!!

Start it out with a 9mm.
Then, when people have gotten used to the idea of mandated "personal protection insurance" increase the amount of "required coverage" by changing the requirement to a 40 or 45 cal. Sort of like how the EPA introduced smog controls on cars. Eventually we can require that everybody must have a bipod mount 50 cal.!!! 8^0

I agree with Congressman West, he's straight up and smart. If you're going to mandate something happen, in the broad sense, let it be CONSTITUTIONAL. It's wholly CONSTITUTIONAL to bear arms, to own arms, to possess arms, to shot (as long as it isn't murder) arms. O'Bama's usurpation of our rights in forcing all the American people to be controlled by the FedGov on all aspects of our health concerned in health insurance is a usurpation of our deepest personal life. What next? O'Bama putting us under Shiria law?

I don't like Glocks, but I do like Browning, Kahr, Remington, Ruger, Beretta.... and I very much prefer the .40 S&W to the 9 x 19 for general carry use.

His principle stands impeccable, though, and his logic is perfectly in line with today's political elites in this regard only. His active promotion of the Second Ammendment, together with a high level of personal responsibility, are commendable and go hard against mainstream politics. For these he is to be commended.. and recommended to serve in high office. I'd far rather have the option of voting for HIM than for Romney. Paul would be better yet, but I'd settle for this man, provided he take on Ron Paul as a close advisor and mentor.

I've got guns except a 9mm. I like to shoot them. I ain't too bad with them either and with a long gun you might get away IF you are real lucky but don't bet on it.

Indeed. He should have run and would BE our next President of the United States. Maybe in 2016. I hate to waste him on VP for Romney. He and Romney would not see eye to eye on a lot of stuff. This could taint AW.

Only one suggestion....the law should require that the gun be made in the US rather than Austria. We have many EXCELLENT manufacturers of FINE weapons here in the USA.
