White House Tries to Spin Obamacare As Penalty Not Tax

Jay CarneyThe White House is completely beside itself. It’s like watching a high wire act. The balancing of lies on top of one another is truly breathtaking and disgusting. First, Barack Obama came out and said that Obamacare was not a tax, but that there were penalties. The Supreme Court has declared it is a tax, a mega tax in fact, and now the White House is attempting to spin it as a penalty again.

Though the court ruled that the fine imposed for not buying health insurance would be otherwise unconstitutional, they also said it is legal under the authority of Congress to tax. Therefore, it is officially a “tax”, not a fine and not a “penalty.”

The White House is unwilling to call it a tax for obvious reasons, especially in an election year. Barack Obama promised people making under $250,000 would not see an increase in their taxes and yet his signature piece of legislation is nothing more than a “big freaking tax” on the American people.

“It’s a penalty, because you have a choice. You don’t have a choice to pay your taxes, right?” Carney said.

Carney wanted to play word games and say, “Call it what you want,” but the fact is the Supreme Court declared it a tax. That was the only way they were going to allow Obamacare to stand. They said Obamacare could not stand under the commerce clause, but had to be defined as a tax in order to rule it Constitutional.

There is no doubt that this will be a huge campaign issue, even bigger than it was before the high court’s ruling.

Obama is not backing off of the healthcare law either. They already have been looking for 4,000 IRS agents to man oversight to make sure everyone is paying into the system and have spent $20 million on public relations in regards to the new healthcare law. Ugg, sometimes I get frustrated with myself calling it that. It is not healthcare. It is a mandatory purchase health insurance law.

Barack Obama though is completely “out to lunch” on this issue. “Whatever the politics, today’s decision was a victory for people all over this country,” Obama said on Thursday following the ruling.

“It should be pretty clear by now that I didn’t do this because it was good politics,” he said. “I did it because it was good for the country.”

Riiiight. Sure you did it for the good of the country. This man wouldn’t know what was good for the United States of America if it put on a latex glove and gave him a prostate exam.

Don’t you people see it? The Supreme Court didn’t really make a ruling in this case at all. First, the Supreme Court can’t re-write a law, so they didn’t. Second, in a way the Supreme Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional but they really ruled that it would be unconstitutional if the mandate was a tax, but it is not a tax as written in the law, therefore the law remains unconstitutional. It boils down to this, they really made no ruling at all, they just let it stand and now it is up to us to pick up the pieces and make sense of the whole mess. Done! And the problem is out of their hair.

However, It gave the Conservative cause a lot of leverage and now the White house has realized it and is now going back to the original story after crowing about the ruling being a victory. Democrats and specifically the White House just woke up to the fact that they are going to have to explain to the American people, how they voted on a bill they didn’t read, that had the largest tax increase in history hidden in it. I wouldn’t want to be on the end of that rope. Now do you see it?

I am sorry for the typo in Line 5. Typing is not my strongest skill. Here is the corrected comment below.
The Supreme Court didn’t really make a ruling on the “Affordable
      care act” case at all.

      First: the Supreme Court
      can’t re-write a law, so they didn’t.
      Second: in a way, the
Supreme Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional
      The Supreme Court really
ruled that “Affordable care act” would be constitutional if the mandate
      was a tax,
but it is not a tax as
      written in the law,
      therefore the law remains constitutional
      based on that condition,
      the law does not comply
with that condition, therefore it is unconstitutional.
      Congress cannot regulate a
      non-existent commerce.

It boils down to this, the Supreme Court really made no
ruling at all, they just let the law stand and now it is up to us to pick up
the pieces and make sense of the whole mess. We the people must repeal the law
if we hope to win America back from socialist/democrat rule.

The Supreme Court passed the buck and now the ball is in our court.

The ruling itself, gives the Conservative cause a lot of
leverage and now the White House has realized it and is now going back to the
original story, after crowing about the ruling being a victory.

Democrats and specifically the White House just woke up to
the fact that they are going to have to explain to the American people, how
they voted for a bill they didn’t read, that had the largest tax increase in
history hidden in it. I wouldn’t want to be on the end of that rope. Now they
are trying to lie their way out of the mess they created. There are a lot representatives
and senators who have egg on their faces now who will face constituents when they
go back home and will have to explain why they voted for the largest tax increase in
      history.

KNOW NOW AMERICA, DON’T DEPEND UPON THE SUPREME COURT TO GO BY OUR CONSTITUTION! THE “MARXIST PLAN” DIDN’T WANT THEM ANY OTHER WAY! And, a BUSH APPOINTEE? DUH! MARXISM IS MARXISM WHATEVER PARTY! WATCH! Just saying….

A tax is a tax. People with health insurance are already paying higher
premiums to help cover the people without insurance that wind up in the
ER so the tax is already there. How do you know in advance which people
don’t need health insurance? I wonder if anyone ever did a study on
how many people from birth (was a doctor present?) to death (did a doctor
try to prolong or save his life?) never got sick or had an accident
    requiring a doctor’s care?

We are already paying a penalty just letting that SOB live in the whitehouse..Come Nov. , lets stop paying that penalty and BTW , Jay Carney is one of the top 5 ass-kissers in this country .It’s a shame not being able to have an opinion of your own…

Well in a way he’s partly right. I look at a major tax increase as a penalty, possibly even a punishment.
